About Cheng Fu Tang

There are many socks factories in the streets and alleys in Shetou, but one of which has forty years is called “Cheng Fu Tang.”  It doesn’t produce socks but a pack of delicious almond cookie.

Not be afraid of pain during the foundation

The first generation of operator, Mr. Xiao, established Cheng Fu Tang which was created in 50’s in the beginning.  It was the type of cookie factory to manufacture and sell and at that time, was also the Issue 1 small scaled enterprise to promote Taiwan’s economic take-off.  Mr. Xiao originally devoted to making native cookie, but he would like to concentrate on the diversification and superior quality.  Therefore, they specially learned a skill with a biscuit master worker from Hong Kong.

The family spent lots of money to invite the Hong Kong master worker to teach us.  Xiao Chang Jie recalled Father who spoke Taiwanese to Hong Kong master worker and they had to communicate through a Hakka interpreting.  “It was absolutely comparing apples to oranges.”  Fortunately, Mr. Xiao made the almond cookie.  He spent several months to overcome the language barrier and worked hard to let Taiwanese taste the imperial article.

We take consumers’ health.  We all hear consumers’ true feelings.

Unfortunately, auspicious days were not long-last.  In 70’s, the Taiwan-made cake industry came across a dilemma that was imported cookie.  It influenced the selling amount of traditional cookie.  The cookie products had low popularity which caused Cheng Fu Tang dropped, while Xiao family did not approve Xiao Chang Jie to inherit family possessions.  It did not hit Chang Jie and furthermore he told to his father “Now that you could raise me with the almond cookie, I could make money with the almond cookie.”

Cheng Fu Tang also encountered great difficulties but we were not afraid of the freeze.  Keep our mind on product improvement of consumers’ demanding and positively challenge the difficulties.  We insisted good quality to compete with other enterprises.  Cheng Fu Tang walked through half century.  We not only presented delicious almond cookie but respected consumers’ health.  We used deluxe vegetable oil in place of animal oil to every consumer who supported tasted delicious almond cookie.

The next generation of operator is enthusiastic about none-profit activities and has feedback to society.

At later period, there are traditional cookie sales counter in the department store to make a glint of hope for domestic biscuit business.  The almond cookie of Cheng Fu Tang has already gone into more than forty years.  Xiao Chang Jie feels very gratified by his little daughter growing up, keeping up the recession, and completing a commitment to his father.

The next generation of operator, Mr. Xiao, carries forward original flavor by modern management and releases various unique products to let people who are flick in affection savor the fresh and new.  Mr. Xiao works hard to manage the factory and not forget to have feedback to society.  For example, he guides physical disability to have an internship or get a job and participates in many non-profit activities, such as donating and charity bazaar.  Let the almond cookie of Cheng Fu Tang travel fast and be deep and warm in the mass mind.
